The cooling therapy is a very new idea that helps the brain cells to sleep to reduce oxygen consumption and to reduce metabolism.
In asphyxia, the basic problem is oxygen is lacking—there is hypoxia-ischemia. Almost one third of cause of death, of all new-born babies in developing countries are due to asphyxia. ut resuscitation, together if possible with cooling the brain can enable an intact brain and can save babies.Bogale Worku, MD is sure that cooling therapy will definitely improve the outcome of asphyxia.

The Importance of CPAP

Bogale Worku, MD, Professor of Pediatrics and Child Health, explains the basic operation and the importance of Bubble CPAP.
Bubble CPAP is relatively a new introduction, which basically is a way of oxygen delivery to reduce the work of breathing.
The CPAP will support in breathing and different studies have shown it’s not only supporting the babies, but it helps in recruiting alveoli.

The Challenges in Africa

Bogale Worku, MD, Professor of Pediatrics and Child Health, defines the challenges in Africa. He says that the specific challenges in Africa are the resources. And even if there are these equipment materials available, human resource who have adequate skill and knowledge on this equipment is lacking.
Another challenge that Bogale Worku, MD points out is the limitation of parents’ involvement in Africa.
"The way we doctors are trying to prevent them from coming in close contact to their children, to their babies, is really for me is heart breaking."
